In this article, we are going to talk about the saffron price.
Compared to other plants that can grow in several regions worldwide and still produce the same high quality, the saffron plant is a unique choice for some areas. To get the commercial amount of dried saffron, you need to harvest 80,000 flowers and more at a time.
The saffron plant (Crocus sativus) does not grow everywhere. Iranian saffron has the best quality because the Iranian climate is its natural habitat and is suitable for saffron production. And the best region for growing saffron is Khorasan.
To date, there is no mechanical method to remove saffron flowers properly, and each saffron flower must be gently removed by hand. Saffron flowers are small and very close to the ground and significantly increase the whole work process. Besides, when picking saffron, a person who wants to pick saffron must have strong legs because he has to walk like a chicken for a long time, which causes leg pain and back pain while picking saffron.
After removing the saffron flower, it is time to clean it, often done by hard-working women in the village and challenging and laborious. Saffron roots are skillfully dried to maintain a deep red color, unique flavor and prevent moisture in the packaging.
In the Middle Ages, the ancient Greeks used saffron extensively, and the Chinese and Romans used saffron for perfume, fabric dyes, and medicinal concoctions. This is a reason for the high saffron price.
Those familiar with saffron know that different types of saffron in the market and saffron price based on this is different.
The types of saffron in the division are not the place of production or packaging company or a variety of saffron cultivation. This issue only refers to the red and yellow parts of the saffron fiber.

Saffron is divided into different categories. Of course, the quality of saffron depends on cultivation and how it is dried. Currently, the best saffron in the world is cultivated and harvested in Ghaenat, Gonabad, and Torbat Heydariyeh.
In general, saffron can be divided into five categories:
These divisions are usually based on the method of separating the stigma from the saffron root. Here we introduce some different types of saffron.
Negin saffron, which is sometimes called Negini saffron, is the best type of saffron in Iran. Negin saffron has different types such as Negin, pseudo-Negin, Super Negin, and other kinds. Negin saffron is the best and most expensive type of saffron, and this type of saffron is usually the one that farmers export and has a high coloring power (about 250 units). Production and sale of Negin saffron are very low due to the time-consuming process of cleaning saffron in this method and the high cost and more activity required for processing.
Negin saffron is the most expensive type of saffron in Iran and is divided into different categories based on how saffron is processed, which are:For more information on different types of Iranian saffron, follow us in other articles.
This saffron is pressed during processing, and the red strands of saffron take on a flat and, in other words, flattened state. This Red Saffron is rare in the market. The global saffron price of this type is about ten to nineteen dollars per five grams. But remember that bulk purchase of saffron is cheaper.
The most well-known and famous type of saffron among Negin saffron categories is Negin Super Saffron. The mentioned saffron has good quality and appearance and is a suitable option for export to Asian countries such as China. Negin Pushal is a special kind of Pushal saffron in which the three strands of a red and thick stigma without the root part (yellow) are separated from the existing strands, and bulky saffron is prepared. This type of saffron is dried straight and without corrosion.
Negin Pushal saffron is the most extravagant and costly sort of saffron and has the most elevated coloring. (between 250 and 320 units). Creation and offer of Negin Pushal saffron, because of the tedious and expensive cycle and more significant movement needed for handling, usually has a decreasing trend in different years. In some instances, this kind of saffron is called Super Negin. The saffron price of 5 grams of this type starts from twenty dollars.
Sargol saffron is actually what comes to mind when we hear the word saffron. There are other names for this type of saffron, such as premium saffron, Ghaenat premium saffron, root saffron, pen saffron. In this type, the root is completely removed, and the completely red stigmas form pure saffron separately.
Sargol quality is challenging to determine and is calibrated and divided into three grades by the two characteristics of “stigma length” and “absence of white patches mixed with the load that has turned red.” The first-grade Sargol is more expensive than the super Negin, and the third-grade Sargol is slightly more costly than the Pushal Ghalamdar. Among the types of saffron, the coloring power of Sargol saffron is more than the other regular types and is about 210 to 260 units. The saffron price of each 5 grams of this type is usually eight dollars.
Pushal saffron is the red stigma part of the saffron string with 1 to 3 mm of the yellow root part. Since the volume of stigma is higher than Dasteh saffron, its coloring power is also higher, and depending on its quality, it will be about 170 to 250 units. Some people have more confidence in this type of saffron because of the connection of the stigma to the root and the reduction of the possibility of being counterfeit. Regular Pushal saffron has ordinary bristles and more roots. The saffron price of each 5 grams of this type is eighty cents to two dollars.
Dasteh saffron is the primary and most basic type of saffron obtained by stacking and drying an entire string of saffron (including stigma and root). The root part is usually 3 to 5 mm, and depending on the quality of saffron, the stigma part can be longer or shorter. The saffron price of each 5 grams of this type is eleven to thirteen dollars.
