Saffron planting method

Saffron planting should be done in temperate climates. In preparing the land for planting this plant, special attention needs to be paid. From August to October, this plant can be planted.

Saffron is active from November to May, and in summer the onion of this plant is not active and its leaves turn yellow and dry and the onion falls asleep, so hot and drylands are not good for planting this plant.

Preparing the land for planting saffron
In order to prepare the land for planting this plant in autumn or winter, the soil is plowed deep, but in an unsuitable position and lack of access to the tractor, plowing is done at the end of spring or early July.

In the mechanized cultivation of saffron with an iron cow in the autumn of the year before planting, the soil is plowed deep and after the spring rains with medium plowing the weeds of the soil are destroyed and then 80-40 tons of animal manure and 200 kg of ammonium phosphate.
In August or September, the land is turned into Faro and they are ready to plant saffron.

Suitable soil for planting and cultivating this plant
The most suitable type of soil for the growth of this sandy plant is clay, with a small amount of lime and a pH between 7-8.
The land on which this plant is planted should not have been planted with saffron for several years, and the soil should be weeded, fertile and sweet.

The right time to plant this plant

The appropriate season for planting this plant from August to Seal is after the planting of saffron onion, does not need to replace this plant in the following years and the onion on this plant remains for 7- 4 and in some areas remained for 10 years.

Planting operations
To plant onions, this plant removes one-row soils, placing 3-15 onions in each hole. When planting onions should be facing up and plant them at a depth of 20 – 15 cm.
Because onions are protected from the cold in winter and protected from heat and other environmental stresses in summer.

4 people are needed to plant saffron.  One person removes the soil from the hole and the other two choose the onions that can be planted.

The fourth person puts the onions in the holes and the work continues in the same way.
After that, the uneven surface is smoothed and compacted so that the onions stick to the soil.
After that, the soil is left until irrigation, and before irrigation, 20-10 tons of completely rotted animal manure is spread on the ground. The grooves are covered with trowel after planting.

Amount and type of saffron onion:

Be careful when buying onions plant!

Onion saffron onion is coarse, healthy, without wounds, fresh and has an age of 7 years and is free from any kind of disease, and the extra skins and hips of each onion are separated.
To prevent the attack of pests and diseases after planting, it is better to soak every 300 kg of onions with mercury toxins such as serzan, tri thizan, granozal.

2 tons of tubers are needed per hectare for planting this plant. In the seventh year onwards, the tubers should be removed because the plant is weak and the tubers become hollow and disappear after one or two years.
The amount of tubers removed from the ground in the seventh year is 5 times the amount cultivated in the first year.

Amount and type of fertilizer for saffron planting:
Each hectare of saffron requires 50 to 30 tons of animal manure and 200 kg of chemical fertilizers such as phosphorus and potash.
Fresh animal manure should not be used on the ground.
Once every three years, 100 kg of fertilizer and 10-15 tons of animal manure are required for the land.

How to irrigate after planting

If you have irrigated the farm before planting, you no longer need to irrigate the farm immediately after planting the onion, but if the farm is not irrigated, you should irrigate the farm immediately after planting. Saffron is a plant that is resistant to dehydration.
The first autumn watering of saffron should be done 15 days before flowering stems.

If the land is irrigated before October, the leaves and then the flowers will appear first, and it will be difficult to pick the flowers, and the flowers will remain between the leaves and disappear.

Saffron is a plant for dry areas, so it does not need much water. After planting the onion of this plant until the harvest, the farm should be irrigated only once, but if watering is done after the harvest, during the winter, the onion will grow large.

Breakage after planting
Fractures cause the flowers to come out of the soil easily and mix the animal manure with the soil.

If the farmer has not applied fertilizer to his land, spread the necessary fertilizer on the soil surface before watering, and then mix the fertilizer with the soil by plowing the surface.

After planting and plant harvesting, we must remove weeds
Weeds in arable land reduce water and nutrients and sunlight, thus reducing crop yields. Also, these weeds cause disturbances in the planting and harvesting stages of the plant and bring diseases and insects to this plant.

Whenever weeds grow, it is necessary to eliminate farm grass. This is done after the second irrigation, which destroys the weeds in the field.

Weed control is done after the saffron flowers are harvested and the second one is done about a month before the third watering.
Chemical herbicides should not be used to control field grasses because the effect of these herbicides on the plant has not been tested.

Saffron harvest:

In the first year, only a large number of large tubers that have enough food storage and flowers can produce, and the whole farm will not produce much.
In mid-November, colorful purple flowers appear on the farm and the first harvest begins three weeks after emergence.

The flowers of the saffron farm appear at the beginning of the cold and autumn when all the plants do not flower and turn the plant farm into one of the most beautiful landscapes in nature.
Harvesting should begin before sunrise and at 9 am, and the Chinese flower operation will continue for 15-25 days.

Planting saffron in the pot
First, choose a suitable pot for planting.
Try to make the pot relatively large.

Make sure there are a few holes in the bottom.
You can use garden soil with some rotten manure to fill the pot.

Put the onions in a pot at a distance of 10 to 15 cm and pour at least 10 cm of soil on it.

The best time to plant onions for this plant is the end of June, but you can plant it until the end of October.

If you plant saffron onions in June, do not water them until October (due to the inactivity of the plant, the onions will rot).

In October, water the onions so that the water comes out of the bottom of the pot.

Place the pot in a sunny place and you will see the flowers grow a month after the first watering.

Once the buds have grown, move the pot to another part of the house that is well lit and warm.

After that, the saffron onions that you have planted will gradually grow. The higher the light and heat, the faster the buds will grow.

Pests and problems
Saffron is very susceptible to the virus, which can cause the plant to die and the buds to not grow.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for viral diseases. First of all, be careful in choosing a healthy onion and get the onion from a reliable agricultural center, and secondly, if you see any of the viral symptoms in the plants, quickly remove the infected plant from the soil and throw it away so that the rest of the plants are not infected.

Saffron onion rot

The problem you may face is that the leaves or onions and roots are eaten by pests. To fight pests, you can use systemic pesticides for each pest.

It is even possible to remove animals such as rabbits, mice, and 2 onions from the soil or eat part of the saffron onion.
To keep these animals away, spray sprays and detoxifiers are available in hardware stores.

You can also make wire cages and place them on your plants to cut off access to animals.
If you don’t want to use pesticides, you can plant daffodils among the flowers of your saffron, because animals hate daffodils and you can be sure that they will not go for your saffron!
